A short Ride to Paradise by motorcycle down on RT 24

May 26, 2013 by Triker Tom Leave a Comment

Leaving Meadowbrook Camping Area by upper driveway, make left on Meadowbrook Rd and go approximately 1 mile and make Left on Berry’s Mill Rd. and follow to end and make left on State rd. and follow approximately 5 miles to Cook’s Corner and Rt24. Make left and start following Rt24 out on towards Bailey’s Island. This is a very scenic ride. You will come into the town of Harpswell, Maine.  As you are riding towards Bailey’s island you will cross the Bailey’s Island Bridge. This Cribstone Bridge is a one of a kind in the world. Built in 1927 and held together with gravity alone, this engineering marvel is something to behold. The current and tides not to mention the storms of the Maine Coast have beaten on the bridge relentlessly for nearly 90 years. She stood up well and provided a safe access to Bailey Island. They rebuilt the bridge in 2008. As you are crossing the Bridge if you look to the right you will see Cooks Lobster House. Cooks is a great Restaurant and has the scenic views. Check out their website http://www.cookslobster.com They have great food and awesome Ambiance. This would be a great place to stop and have an awesome meal. After leaving Cooks Lobster House, continue on RT24 and head up the hill and you come to one of my favorite views. You will see the lobster boats moored in the cove. This is one of my favorite spots. Be ready to take more pictures.  As you continue towards the end of Rt24 you come to the ocean. On the left is another favorite spot called Lands End Gift Shop. http://www.landsendgifts.com This is a great place to pick up something from the local area to remember the trip and if you can’t fit on the motorcycle, they ship anywhere. Mention Meadowbrook and they give you a 10% discount. Enjoy your ride.
