Panama city Beach to Foley, Al. (A Day Trip)

It was Sat morning and I got up at about 6am and the rain was still dripping on my camper.  It had rained really hard last night all night long.  It was 63 degrees outside and foggy.  I decided to take a trip to Foley, Al. to the Coleman Outlet store.  I used my Delorme  Mapping program and found out it was only 122 mile west of here along RT98, A very scenic Route and a fun route to ride unless it is in summer then there is a lot of traffic  in Destin area, but still worthwhile. So i put the leathers on and headed west. Their was a cold front coming through but i carry all my winter gear anyway.

0730 and i was pulling out of Raccoon River Campground heading west and it was foggy. I was taking RT 98 all the way to Foley and left on RT 59 to Coleman store. as i headed out of PCB, it was still foggy but i was traveling west.  I remember when this road was only a 2 lane but it was a nice riding 4 lane with little traffic.  I hit Destin an passed silver sands outlet mall,  and their was very little traffic so i kept going  and crossed the bridge onto Okaloosa Island. The Island is a special place and must be what this whole area must have looked like  in the Fifties. i love to ride along the beach and see the white sand dunes.  At the end of the island i crossed the bridge into Fort Walton.  If you ever get a chance to stop there it is very cool. their is an Indian mound their and next to the mound is an Indian shop that is very cool. It has a lot of Indian garb in it, made by local tribes.  Continuing west  we are coming up on Hurbert Field, U.S. Air Force, And a salute to all the hero’s of our military, and those whom spend time away from their love ones to keep us and our country safe. as i continue west my next area to enter is Pensacola are and cross the bridge into downtown Pensacola.  The city of Pensacola has done a lot to improve the downtown area of Pensacola. This is a Navy town and the home of the Blue Angels.  One of my favorite places downtown is Pensacola Little Theater. This is a very beautiful  historic building and they have great plays there. The last one i saw was last fall and it was called” Daddy’s Dyin” and it was very funny.  As I pass the N.A.S. Pensacola and again I salute the Men and women of our armed services I continue  through the city. I come to Blue Angel Rec area and if you are military you can you can camp in the Rec area and right on  beautiful Perdido Bay. I have camped their a couple of times with some of the Good Sam chapters.

As I continue i cross the bridge over Perdido Bay and enter Sweet Home Alabama.  I look at my GPS and i am only 22 miles from Foley, Al.  i continue along the county road heading to Foley.  As I made a left hand turn i saw a Berger King and decided to stop for coffee and breakfast, and of course a bathroom break.  As I ordered my food a man came up to me and complimented me on my Trike.  I don’t need a reason to talk about my Trike so we had breakfast together.  His name was Tim and he was Indiana and he was here for the winter.  we joked about the snow they were getting and I found out he lost his wife in august. we talked for about 15 minutes and I headed out to the Coleman outlet.  I had no intention of buying anything but i saw a tent that was marked down and I decided to buy it and will try it out next week when I go to South Carolina camping.  They had some really neat things and I could have spent a lot of money, But I was good and started home. I put my winter garb on and headed east. Took about 2 and 1/2 hours to get home.  it was a great day ride and their is a lot of shopping in Foley.  One of my favorite places to go Shopping.  This was a beautiful day ride and if the sun was out it would have been great. Of course any day on the trike is a great day!!!!!
